My approach

The newborn scent you wish you could bottle. Little fingers, little toes. Who do you think they look like? Wind or smile? Stroking heads. Big little yawns. Holding your finger.

Less posing, more living.

(The Little Joys of Newborn Days (and Nights) - The Leopard, 2021)

My approach is totally documentary style, capturing all the above and more. Newborn moments pass by so quickly, I’m here to capture you actually in them, staring at your new little bundle, feeding, changing, snoozing, cuddling, big siblings (however they feel about their new little sibling).

Your happiest moments are not staged.

Like what you see?

So, how does a newborn shoot work?

Newborn sessions usually take place at your home, in your newborn bubble.

Like all my other sessions, I’m really just part of the furniture, to document these newborn bubble moments, however they’re unfolding for you. It’s helpful for baby to be fed and changed before I arrive so they’re settled, but generally, we just follow baby’s rules! If they want to sleep, they sleep. If they want changing, they get changed. If they want feeding, they get fed. If they don’t want to be put down, well, that one really works in our favour!

Siblings are more than welcome to be involved as much or as little as they want, they can set their own boundaries. In my experience, forcing moments is the worst thing you can do. It’s those natural moments that I want to capture, they will mean the most to you.

I always endeavour to capture the family as a whole, with each parent, with siblings where applicable and baby on their own including gorgeous newborn details. I’m all about the real moments that make up your family.
