My approach.
More messy pancakes, more jumping in puddles, more bed-hair, more books, more exploring, more peek-a-boo, more tickle fights, more snack hunting, more kicking leaves, more mud.
Less posing, more living.
In a nutshell, my approach is totally documentary style. I don’t think there is anything more gorgeous than the natural chaos of family life. Sure, you can stand in front of a nice view and all say ‘cheese’, but will it mean more to you than baking cookies with your little one, or reading them a story, or jumping in puddles with them? Your happiest memories are not staged.

Where do I start. Amy is absolutely fantastic. We had the best afternoon, barely noticing Amy was there which creates the best natural and candid shots. Amy gave us direction when we needed and we chased the sun for some sunset photos which were perfect. I would 1000% recommend Amy and I can’t wait to do more milestone shoots with her.
So, how does a documentary family shoot work?
In my experience, forcing ‘moments’ is the worst thing you can do. Your happiest moments are not staged.
So, whether we’re at your house, or out and about, I’m pretty much there to tag along on your day to capture your life as a family!! I love to shoot documentary style, which means no saying cheese, no sitting in the same place for too long, no painful moments trying to make everyone look at the camera…
If we’re at home, an activity of some sort is a great idea, be it baking, a board game or decorating the Christmas tree!! Out and about, we can invoke a bit of imagination, or failing that, the swings never fails to induce joy!
I am more than happy to do a couple of more formal family portraits, but I always get these done first. After 45 minutes, I get marching orders from toddlers to teenagers! You and I both know that there ain’t no way we’re getting a smile out of a grumpy threenager.
I’m all about the real moments that happen with you guys as a family.
