Izzy & Nick: Barnsley House, Cotswolds

First time at Barnsley House and it did not disappoint!! Full of Cotswolds charm, and I even got a sneaky look at the spa which looked heavenly 😍

Even though I’m based in Derbyshire, the Cotswolds is an easy 2 hour drive from me - I feel so lucky to live in a place with easy access to beautiful corners of the UK!

Here, I was second shooting for the lovely Kate Pook.

The Morning

I spent the morning of with the lads in the gorgeous space they’d been getting ready in… the usual groom preparations ensued; champagne, banter, mass panic over buttonholes. Cotswolds stone and perfect weather (overcast, but not cold) made it the ideal conditions to capture their morning.

The Ceremony

I love outdoor ceremonies, particularly in perfect weather! The lighting can always be temperamental indoors, on an overcast day you’re guaranteed some soft light and beautiful shots. I also find it easier to creep around outside, without the risk of stepping on a creaky floorboard or disturbing guests through the tight side aisles.

Confetti as you walk back down the aisle is also a pro in my book!! White rose petals mean guests can get a good handful to flutter over you.

The Details

I cannot simply write a blog post on this wedding without touching on the beautiful calligraphy, from the hands of none other but one of Izzy’s bridesmaids - The Wedding Paporium (aka, Cathy!)

Such gorgeous work from the hand painted venue on the invitations to the delicate calligraphy on the name cards. Through and through it just fitted completely for Izzy and Nicks day!

If you’re looking for wedding stationary, I highly recommend looking Cathy up!

The Reception

Drinks and many hugs and even more canapés in the garden (which was absolutely THRIVING by the way!), before we headed in for food and speeches.

I loved the simplicity of the colour scheme at this wedding - you cannot go wrong with greens and whites in your florals and foliage, interspersed with blue thistles. There is a reason why they say less is more!!

The Evening

While guests drank espresso and pornstar martinis in the garden, we took Izzy and Nick off for a few more couple photos aka another opportunity to spend a little bit of time just the two of you to absorb what the day has been. The wedding day can fly by without you spending much time together (just ask any married couple!), but isn’t that what it’s all about in the first place?

Sparklers at dusk, rather than after sunset, is the perfect time to get these shots, with a little bit of light available in the sky to photograph, but low enough to make sparklers… well, sparkle ✨ for spring/summer/early autumn weddings, my advice is not to go too late with your sparklers, hopefully above illustrates why.

Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end of this post, if you’ve enjoyed and you’re looking for a wedding photographer please do get in touch! I have some availability at the end of 2022, and plenty still in 2023.

I would love to hear from you and about your wedding plans!
